Thai food in Malta, discovered by our US guests
Jungle Joy Gżira hears a lot of American accents. Many of those guests found us the same way: on Google, looking for Thai food in Malta. They arrive with one wish, to eat like they would in Thailand, at least once on this trip.
“We keep meeting guests who found us on Google and want that exact vibe: original Thai food with a European beer next to it,” says owner Stefan Heller. “Everyone is thrilled with the prices, and you can see it in the reviews from our American guests.”
Thai food like in Thailand, near Sliema
The kitchen at Jungle Joy Gżira cooks the dishes people know from Thailand, fresh: Pad Thai, Tom Yam soup, green, red and massaman curries, and Pad Kro-Prao, the holy basil stir-fry. It runs until 22:00, and the full list is on the food menu.
Chilli is your call. Much of the menu is mild, and the team turns the heat up as far as you ask. If you order “Thai hot” back home, ask for a little extra chilli here too. Vegetarian dishes are marked “Veg” on the menu; tell the team what you need.
A cold beer next to it, European or Thai
The other half of that vibe is the beer. Malta’s own Cisk lager costs €3.90 a pint. Belgian ales like La Chouffe, Duvel and Rochefort cost €6.00–6.50, and Paulaner Weissbier from Munich costs €5.50. If you’d rather keep the whole meal Thai, ask the team which Thai beer is available.
One Belgian ale on the list is simply called Jungle Joy (€6.00). Happy hour runs daily, 16:00–19:00. See the drinks menu for the current selection and prices.
The prices in the reviews
The prices are what US guests mention in their reviews, Stefan says. Pad Thai starts at €11.50 and curries at €12.50, rice or noodles included. A chicken Pad Thai, a chicken green curry and two pints of Cisk come to €32.80 for two.
